Why Intelligent Agent Technology?

Real-Time Agent Platform Overfiew

The next big questions, is what type of AI to use to solve these operations management problems?

While regenerative AI software is great at generating and recognizing images and writing documents (not this one), it does a poor job of performing front-office functions that require analyzing streams of time dependent data and formulating plans based on time-dependent phenomena.

Real-time intelligent agent software, on the other hand is “the other AI” that was developed for use in military applications, such as automatically navigating aircraft and defending naval carrier groups in war zones, and now increasingly, is finding its application in real-time decision-support systems for use in industrial front-office applications.

In industrial front-office systems, intelligent agents can be used to replace, or augment, many of the “intelligent grunt work” tasks performed by front-office staff, enabling these people to devote much more of their time to be devoted to making decisions, which only human beings can make, due to the breadth of their general knowledge.

These agents run continuously 24x7, periodically interpreting many sources of data in real-time, from which they do planning and coordination, as well as make recommendations for action, issue alerts and warnings, or even carry out routine tasks themselves.

Because, many events continuously occur often at the same time, and data changes in real-time, at multiple geographically distributed locations in most manufacturing or distribution operations, this is not a suitable task for regenerative AI system, which need to run for a relatively long-time on large, very expensive mainframe computers.

Real-time intelligent agent platforms like the RTAP™ (Real-Time Agent Platform) software platform from SmartOps™ can, however be run on small, low-cost, ruggedized industrial computers. This makes them suitable for integration into the existing IT infrastructures, such as to supplement the capabilities of existing ERP systems.

The purpose of Smart Operations Management Systems is to ensure that everyone in an organization has the information they need to do their job, in near real-time, when they need it, and in the format that they need it. This also includes automating routine intelligent-grunt-work tasks that do not need human intervention.

RTAP agents do this by monitoring data being generated or entered in a wide variety of different systems and then interpreting this data into information that will be of value to its recipients. This information is then sent to systems that people use on a routine basis, as well as sending Email or text message alerts to let people know when they need to take action.
