How ISOM Systems Track Materialized Flow

AI Man

ERP and Inventory Tracking systems track the quantity of each material at a location, such as how many widgets are on a specific rack location in the warehouse.

ISOM systems by contrast track containers of material by a unique tracking barcode or RFID tag attached to the container. This includes tracking rolls and reels of material, serialized items and assets.

The reason behind this is to enable ISOM systems to track many attributes of each container, such as:

This enables the ISOM system to track materials with the same item number, but different characteristics, in many different locations and to track the movement of containers between locations and facilities. It also enables the keeping track of which materials went into the making of each product for traceability purposes.

This data is especially critical to track in make-to-order manufacturing operations where the same material may be ordered for use on different jobs.

ISOM systems are also capable of tracking nested containers by tracking parent containers.

Nested Containers This enables an ISON system to record containers of material, as they are loaded onto individual pallets, each with its own tracking barcode. This is done by scanning the tracking barcode on each box, for example, along with the pallet barcode. The system then tracks what is on each pallet.

Movement or shipment of the pallet and its contents can then be recorded by simply scanning the pallet tracking barcode.
